ay’s musical versatility and excellence have earned him nationwide and international attention. His compositions have been performed across the United States and in Europe, fulfilling commissions from orchestral, choral, band, and chamber music organizations. He has conducted a wide variety of orchestral music with youth, community, collegiate, and professional orchestras, and has conducted concert bands, jazz bands, early music, and full musical theater and chamber opera productions. Ray has also appeared in the US, the UK, and France as an authority on the history of brass chamber music.

As a trumpeter, Ray has worked with scores of noted classical and popular artists and has played on numerous Hollywood motion picture sound tracks. He has also performed and recorded on baroque trumpet and has been a featured artist
on both modern and baroque instruments.

Ray's teaching involves courses in music history, appreciation, theory, and musicianship and the many ensembles he has led at Pomona College, Occidental College, Glendale College, and Pasadena City College.
